Over 445 reasons why you should consider the Raleigh area

A lot of people have asked me over the past year or so why I left Seattle. Well, here are over 445 accolades (nine years worth) the Raleigh area was awarded that partially helped weigh the decision to move here over any other city in the United States. The reasons you would want to move here won’t necessarily match ours, so I didn’t filter them.

To be completely transparent with you, I am not currently (or have ever been) employed by any company on this list, and have no financial incentives as a result of posting this. I just live here.

That list comes to a total of 445 accolades since 2005. That comes out to 48 #1 spots not including 50 best-of/annual awards, making 307 of these come up under the top ten spots.

If you are from areas like Seattle, New York, or pretty much anywhere in California, the cost of living here is much lower. It also has a much more diverse technology sector than Seattle. For example, try to name ten software companies in the Seattle area that don’t include Microsoft or Amazon.

After moving to the area and talking with local recruiter Rebecca (Ellington) Ingle of TEKsystems, the one thing that the awards would never have shown and was completely hidden is the negative unemployment when it comes to .NET developer positions. Looking at job postings on LinkedIn, Indeed.com, and Dice.com will show this still rings true almost a year and a half later.

I’m not going to actively maintain this list, but if you go over to visitRaleigh whom originally compiled these accolades with the assistance of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, you’ll be sure to find the latest additions. Check out WorkInTheTriangle.com for more information as well.
